Six top Catalan research centres constitute ‘The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology’ to pursue a joint scientific endeavour
CRG, ICIQ, ICN2,ICFO, IFAE and IRB Barcelona come together in the Barcelona Institute. This new institution emerges as one of the leading scientific institutes in Europe, ranking fourth in the number of ERC grants awarded per volume of researchers. It will promote joint research strategies, transfer of technology, and graduate programs.
The SAB Meeting is being held at ICN2 between June 22 and 24. Together with the Institute Director, Prof Pablo Ordejón, the Board members are interacting with all the Group leaders of ICN2 to discuss recent achievements and share their views about the future challenges of the Institute.
The ICN2 hosted the Scientific Workshop HINTBCN under the umbrella of HINT COST Action MP1202. Over 70 participants including COST members and representatives of different European research institutions participated in the meeting and had the opportunity to share experience and research advances from different areas and focused on the bio-applications of hybrid materials.
In a new article published in Nano Letters, ICN2 researchers led by ICREA Prof Sergio O. Valenzuela have investigated hot carrier propagation across graphene using an electrical nonlocal injection/detection method. The results create new opportunities for nanoscale bolometry and calorimetry and could have a strong impact in the performance of conventional graphene devices.
